Nashville Man Charged with Aggravated Assault for Striking Metro Employee with Car Over Parking TicketSource: Google Street View

A Nashville man has been slapped with an aggravated assault charge after he allegedly plowed his vehicle into a Department of Transportation employee following a parking infraction. Jacobi Austin, 24, reportedly lost his cool when the Metro Nashville employee issued him a ticket on Monday, as detailed by WKRN.

The chain of events began when the worker was writing up a citation for Austin's illegally parked Ford sedan on 6th Avenue North near Union Street, as per WKRN. Police say Austin attempted to slap the ticket book out of the employee's hand, and after failing to do so, got into his car to aggressively strike the employee with it before speeding away. This violence against a public servant is said to quickly escalate a simple parking violation into a dangerous assault.

According to WSMV, the victim was taken to a local hospital with injuries deemed non-life-threatening. Fortunately, the consequences of the collision did not veer into the tragic, but the implications of such an act of vehemence speak deeply to the violence that those who serve our public must navigate, in simply executing their duties.

Austin is currently being held on a $50,000 bond. "Austin approached him and tried to slap the ticket book from his hand," the victim recounted when speaking to the police, as shared by FOX 17. It is reported that without mission a beat, the employee continued to issue the ticket, despite the looming threat of escalation—a testament to the dedication of those entrenched in the public sector.
