Seattle Braces for Rainy Week Ahead with Umbrellas at the Ready, NWS Forecasts Soggy ConditionsSource: Monikasj, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons

The weather outlook in Seattle is shaping up to be a typical soggy story for the coming week, according to forecasts. As the city enters the month of May, residents can expect a parade of clouds and rain that will ensure umbrellas remain a street-side staple.

Today might be sunny with a high of 67 degrees, but clouds will rule the sky as a meager 10 percent chance of rain lurks in the afternoon shadows, reports the National Weather Service (NWS). Come evening, rain is "likely, mainly after 9pm," with new precipitation amounts hitting a possible quarter of an inch.

Heading into the weekend, the NWS doesn’t offer much reprieve. Saturday will greet locals with a steady 52 degrees and another persuasive 70 percent chance of rain. Similar conditions are in store for Sunday, with rain likely after 11am and a high of 53 degrees. If you have outdoor plans, it might be time to rethink your itinerary.

The weather narrative continues its moist trend into next week, with Monday showing a 90 percent chance of precipitation, including potential thunderstorms. And although Tuesday provides a weak glimmer of hope in the form of a "chance of rain," the tenor of the forecast quickly returns to the wet and grey Seattleites know so well, with partly sunny skies forecasted for Wednesday and a return to full sunshine not expected until Thursday, as per the NWS.

With such a damp outlook, it appears the sidewalks of Seattle will be awash with raincoats and weatherproof boots, as the city embraces its cliché with open arms. Whether locals will let the dreary days dampen their spirits, however, is a bet no forecaster can make.
