A grim hit-and-run late Friday night claimed the life of a woman bicycling in Palm Beach County, Florida, authorities said. The fatal incident occurred at the intersection of Okeechobee Boulevard and Haverhill Road, west of West Palm Beach. According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a vehicle that fled the area.

Responders from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue arrived at 11:56 p.m. to find the woman, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, already deceased from the collision, as reported by WPTV. The crash report indicates she was traveling northbound within the western crosswalk when a black car, heading eastbound on Okeechobee at roughly twice the speed limit, hit her and raced away, clocking speeds of 96 mph in a 45 mph zone. Later, the suspect's car, a dark 2007-2008 Hyundai Tiburon, was found roughly 2 miles east from the location of the crash at Manor Drive and Okeechobee. It bore substantial damage to the left front, with a notable piece of the bumper cover missing. "Both occupants were arrested on non-traffic-related charges," said Teri Barbera, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office, as stated in an update by WFLX.
