A Philadelphia neighborhood was left heartbroken after a two-year-old girl died in a harrowing accident, involving her own mother's car. The incident occurred in the Crescentville section of the city yesterday evening around 5:30, according to FOX29.

Officials said that the child was struck by a vehicle driven by her 31-year-old mother on the 200 block of Comly Street. Originally, after parking the car, the mother had taken her daughter inside the house, not realizing she had followed her back to the street. It was then that the devastating accident occurred, with the mother accidentally hitting her two-year-old daughter while maneuvering her car.

CBS News reports that after the accident, the mother rushed the girl to Einstein Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The Philadelphia Police Department is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the heartbreaking event. So far, no criminal activity has been suspected in connection with the child's death.

Police sources told 6ABC that the mother had initially double-parked her blue Chevy Traverse to unload groceries before the tragedy unfolded. Following the accident, it was quickly determined that the child's death was a tragic accident with no criminal intent by the mother, who was likely unaware the child had exited the house.

The girl's identity has not been released as the family navigates this profound loss.
