Chaos erupted on a Northeast street when two armed men allegedly robbed a victim at gunpoint before opening fire and assaulting a cop, authorities say. According to a press release on the Metropolitan Police Department's website, the incident occurred on the 2100 block of Kearny Street on Tuesday afternoon.

The report says the suspects attacked the victim, demanding their belongings forcefully. A Fifth District officer arrived fast and helped the victim. One of the attackers even fired a weapon at the officer before both ran away.

The police work did not stop there. In a determined response, MPD officers were able to apprehend two individuals shortly after the violent encounter. A rigorous investigation by detectives led to the identification and charging of 23-year-old Kurtis Hubbard and 21-year-old Brian Richard for their alleged involvement in the armed robbery.

Hubbard, from Fort Washington, MD, faces charges of Armed Robbery, Endangerment with a Firearm, and Carrying a Pistol Without a License. Meanwhile, Richard, a resident of Fairland, MD, has been charged with Armed Robbery. Both suspects are now being processed through the legal system, as they prepare to quickly face the ramifications of their actions.
