In a dramatic rescue, the SFFD, SFPD and Coast Guard responded to the waters off Pier 45 this afternoon, where dozens of people were in the water after a boat capsized shortly before 4:30pm, with some trapped under the hull.

According to fire officials, all passengers aboard the vessel have been accounted for.

Update, 10/9: The Chronicle reports that two children are in critical condition following the accident. A five-year-old was unconscious and not breathing after the rescue, and was taken to the hospital in critical condition; another child, age unknown, is in critical but stable condition.

It's still unknown what caused the boat, a 30- to 40-foot motorized yacht, to capsize and sink about 100 yards from shore.

Update, 10/11: The unconscious child who was in critical condition is in much better shape, and was released from the hospital today.
