14 Ways To Enjoy The Days Ahead In And Around North BeachPhoto: Eugene Kim / Flickr

In case you need a breather from this week's election coverage, there are plenty of events to enjoy around North Beach to keep you distracted.

Interested in getting in the holiday spirit and losing a few pounds? The Bay Club will be debuting a new exercise class today called "The Drop"—45-minutes of full body, fast-paced, high intensity strength training followed by 30 minutes of cool-down yoga and stretching—with proceeds going directly to Toys for Tots. The classes run from 6-8pm.

Interested in donating to a local cause? The North Beach Citizens' annual community recognition award dinner and fundraiser on Sunday will honor local architect and philanthropist Janet Crane. All proceeds from the dinner—with individual tickets starting at $175—help North Beach Citizens continue its work with low-income and homeless individuals in need of assistance. The dinner starts at 6pm.

Interested in enjoying the city with a few less cars around? This Sunday is the final Sunday Streets event of the year, which will take place along a two-mile, car-free stretch of the Embarcadero. Organizers encourage people to bike, walk, skate, stroll, jog, or skip along the promenade while also enjoying live music, a rock climbing wall, free blood pressure screenings, food demos, and more. The event begins at 9am.

Don't want to work too hard from your entertainment? The Tarids meteor shower starts on Friday ( the best time to watch is dawn, right as the sun rises) and the brightest supermoon since 1948 will be above your head on Saturday night. So, you know, just look up for both.

In local news this week, a Russian venture capitalist has bought the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 906 Broadway with plans to turn it into a thought leadership forum, D3 supervisor Aaron Peskin coasted to victory on Tuesday, both Washington Square Park and Joe DiMaggio Playground scored well in a list of well-maintained city parks and the remains of an old ship were found buried next to the Old Ship Saloon.
