There are three annual events you can set your watch to around North Beach: the street festival in the summer, Fleet Week and the Blue Angels in the fall and the unavoidable influx of Santas for SantaCon, which takes place this Saturday.

The Christmas-themed bar crawl/costume party starts in Union Square and branches off in a few different directions around the city, including North Beach's Washington Square Park. If you plan on attending, consult the event map to know which bars are welcoming Santas (often with drink specials) and which are barring them.

Those in attendance are also encouraged to participate in the event's toy drive; volunteers at Central Station (Powell & Vallejo) and all of the other SFPD stations will be collecting donations.

Need a respite from the revelers? The National Park Service is hosting family-friendly Celebrations at Sea all day Saturday, complete with costumed living history players walking around Hyde Street Pier (2905 Hyde St.), a puppet show, crafts and ornament-making and a visit from Santa. Reservations are not required.

The festive season continues on Sunday, with the second annual "Where's Elfie?" scavenger hunt around North Beach. Families can pick up a map of possible Elfie hiding places, and win prizes for each Elf found.

That afternoon, pet owners can also bring their favorite four-legged buddy to Jeffrey's Natural Pet Foods (1841 Powell St.) for a pet holiday party, with food, beverages and the chance to get a professional photo with Santa and your pet.
