While we don't report on every crime, we do our best to keep you informed of major crimes and safety concerns in the neighborhood. Here's a selection of crimes reported around SoMa within the second half of January. All details are pulled from the SFPD's daily crime recaps, unless otherwise noted.

Critical Stabbing

As we previously reported, a 19-year-old man was stabbed and critically injured around 7:30pm January 18th on the 700 block of Mission Street, near Yerba Buena Gardens. No arrests have been reported.

Bus Stop Assault

At 11:30pm January 25th, a 25-year-old man was assaulted at a bus stop at Harrison and 11th. One male suspect in his early 30s reportedly pushed the victim, then the second suspect, also a man in his early 30s, began assaulting the victim with his fists. The victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests were made.

Robberies With Force

A robbery around 2:50pm January 25th resulted in the injury of a 29-year-old man. The suspect, a 23-year-old man, approached the victim, who was sitting in his car on the 800 block of Mission, and opened the door. The suspect then punched the victim and took his phone and wallet. The suspect fled the scene via a nearby vehicle. The victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was not apprehended, and the police did not provide a description of the getaway vehicle.

On January 21st at 3:15pm, a 57-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man were injured during a robbery at Howard and Third streets. The suspect, a man age 25-30, pulled the female victim's camera from around her neck, causing her to fall to the ground. The male victim intervened but was pushed to the ground. The suspect fled on foot and not apprehended. Both victims were transferred to the hospital with minor injuries.

Another robbery with force occurred January 21st on the 100 block of New Montgomery. Around 5am, a 67-year-old man discovered a man, age 30-40, in his basement. The victim escorted the suspect out of the building. However, when he took out his cellphone to call the police, the suspect grabbed the phone and fled on foot. No arrest was made.

Serial Arsonist Arrested

At 2:38am January 31st, officers witnessed a 30-year-old man set fire to a newspaper stand on the 700 block of Market Street. The suspect was arrested and it was later discovered that the suspect had set two additional garbage can fires in the SoMa—one at Gallagher and Tehama streets and another at Fourth and Stevenson.

Tent Fire

Last Friday, Eric Lopez of the SoMa Bend Neighborhood Association informed Hoodline that at approximately 9pm January 26th, a tent caught fire at 12th and Kissling streets. A pile of burned items was found outside a warehouse and a wall was scorched. Lopez also noted that he has reached out to Supervisor Jane Kim's office and Sandra Zuniga, director of the mayor's Fix-It team—which is preparing to address quality of life issues in the neighborhood this year—regarding this and other fires in SoMa over the last several months. The Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing has also been alerted of these concerns.

Hot Prowl

A 53-year-old man woke up on January 22nd to find that his property, including credit cards and car keys, were taken from his residence on the 700 block of Mission Street, reportedly between 11pm January 21st and 8am the next day. No suspects were identified.
