A year and a half after dim sum-and-karaoke spot Quan Ju Fu closed for business, the corner restaurant at 2140 Clement St. (at 23rd Ave.) is gearing up to reopen as K Elements BBQ.

In the last month, there have been notable changes: new signage, a fresh paint job, and the first public-facing announcement of the name.

Details about the project are still a little fuzzy, but here's what we can tell you now.

Despite the long vacancy, K Elements was formed as a business at this location as early as October 2015. But as we found out through various building permits, the protracted closure was due in large part to a hefty construction overhaul, including a new fire suppression system, entirely new floors on both levels, and a new roof.

According to planning documents filed by the city last June, the location is approved for service from 5 to 11pm with two operational floors. It was also approved last month for beer and wine service.

As of this week, the inside has been furnished with tables and chairs, and the construction wrap is off the windows.

To date, though, there's not much to glean in the way of the restaurant's focus or offerings—although, based on the name, there's been speculation that it'll add to the area's Korean barbecue options. To date, the nearest other Korean barbecue is Jang Soo BBQ at 6314 Geary Blvd.

We'll keep you posted with openings and menu offerings as things move along.
