25 Ways To Celebrate The (Unofficial) Start Of Summer In San FranciscoPhoto: Mobilus in Mobili/Flickr

Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer (which unofficially ends after Labor Day). You don't need to head out of the city to enjoy the extended holiday weekend.

Kick it all off with an early, but free garden tour of Alcatraz on Friday. On Saturday, the 39th Carnaval Festival in the Mission and the Treasure Island Birthday Bash will be great ways to get outside and soak up the sun.

Act like a kid again on Sunday with free arcade and pinball games in SoMa or ride your bike over to Civic Cyclery's new digs and free opening party in the Tenderloin. Lastly, least you forget why you have an extra day off, the Presidio Trust's Memorial Day Commemoration starts at 10:30 Monday morning, ending with a 21-gun salute and community picnic.

Here's the rest of your roundup for the holiday weekend:

Thursday, May 25

Friday, May 26

Saturday, May 27

Sunday, May 28

Monday, May 29
