New Chinese Spot 'Jiangnan Cuisine' Now Open In The Outer RichmondPhoto: Pawel D./Yelp

Jiangnan Cuisine, a new Chinese spot, has debuted at 3420 Balboa St. in the Outer Richmond, in the space formerly occupied by Sapoten.

The new spot joins the Inner Richmond's Taste of Jiangnan restaurant in serving up specialties from Shanghai and the regions south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.

Karen C., the first Yelper to review the new spot on May 17th, said: "Yesterday for lunch, my friend whose mother is from Jiangnan, and I tried it.  We both agreed it was excellent." She called out the "tender, delicious, HUGE" Lion's Head meatball as a "great deal" for $3.95, and noted the "famous" Hong Shao Ro (red-braised pork) as "EXCELLENT." "I hope I don't regret writing this review and then find long lines the next time I go, which I plan to do soon."

Yelper OuterLandsX added: "Had my first meal there today, a lunch of mapo tofu, which Jiangnan has on the menu as made with chicken. It was super tasty: firm tofu, ground chicken, nice presence of pepper, good heat, all over a healthy serving of rice. It came to ... $4. I left a $2 out of sheer guilt. Can't wait to go back. Maybe as soon as tomorrow!"

Jiangnan Cuisine is now open at 3420 Balboa (between 35th and 36th avenues)—check it out and see for yourself.
