While we don't report on every incident, we do our best to keep you informed of major crimes and safety concerns in the neighborhood.
Here's a selection of crimes reported in and around the Tenderloin since our last recap. All details are pulled from the SFPD's daily crime recaps, unless otherwise noted.
Three teens rob woman on Market Street
Around 9:30pm on June 13th, three males said to be 16 years old approached a 24-year-old woman on the 1100 block of Market Street (near 7th). The teenagers bumped into the woman, stole her backpack and cell phone and fled the scene. No arrests have been made.
Man assaulted by two teens
At 6:21pm on June 11th, a 35-year-old man was walking near the intersection of Market and 7th streets when he was approached by two teenagers—both male—said to be 13 or 14 years old. One of the suspects pushed the victim, who dropped his phone. The second suspect grabbed the phone, while the first suspect assaulted the victim. Both suspects fled on foot and have not been identified.
Man robbed from behind
Around 8:30am on June 9th, a 51-year-old man was approached from behind near the intersection of Ellis and Cyril Magnin streets and had his cellphone stolen by a man said to be in him twenties. The victim was not injured but the suspect remains at large.
Man stabbed after argument
Just after 2:00am on June 9th, a 39-year-old man and a man said to be in his thirties got into a verbal altercation on the 200 block of Leavenworth Street (near Turk). The suspect stabbed the victim with a knife before fleeing the scene. The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Robbery at knifepoint
A 40-year-old man was approached from behind by two men said to be in their thirties near the intersection of Taylor and Eddy street at 1:10am on June 9th. One suspect pulled a knife on the victim while the second went through his pockets and stole his money. Both suspects fled on foot and have not been detained; the victim was not injured.
Assault and robbery with an unknown weapon
At 5pm on June 7th, an unknown suspect attacked a 43-year-old man from behind with an unknown weapon near the intersection of 6th and Market streets. The suspect continued to attack the victim until he passed out on the ground. When the victim came to, his money and the suspect were gone.
Early morning arson arrest
A 46-year-old man set fire to a building near the intersection of 6th and Market streets at 7:35am on June 7th. The San Francisco Fire Department responded to the fire and the suspect was taken into custody.
Attempted robbery at knifepoint
Between 5:00 and 6:00pm on June 6th, a 33-year-old man was confronted by three men said to be in their early twenties on the 200 block of Eddy Street (near Taylor). One suspect, said to be 24, brandished a knife, while a second suspect punched the victim. The three suspects fled without taking any property, but the victim was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Arrest made after store clerk fights back
Around 7:00am on June 6th, a 56-year-old man starting yelling at a clerk manning the counter at a store on the 1400 block of Market (near Polk). The clerk, a 31-year-old man, told the older man to leave, but the suspect punched him and grabbed his radio. The older man left the store and threw down the clerk’s radio. The clerk began wrestling the suspect before SFPD officers arrived and took the suspect into custody.
Knifepoint robber flees on foot
Just before 9:40pm on June 4th on the 1200 block of Market Street (near Hyde), a man said to be in his twenties brandished a knife at a 28-year old man and demanded the victim hand over his property. The suspect fled eastbound on Market with the victim’s backpack, wallet and jacket and has not been identified.
Verbal argument over bike turns violent
A 38-year old man and a 39-year-old man got into a verbal argument over a bicycle in UN Plaza around 1:10pm on June 3rd. The younger man hit the victim with a flashlight and fled on the bicycle. The older man was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
