The main branch of the San Francisco Public Library at 100 Larkin St. has been evacuated and closed after a man jumped off a balcony, reported police officials.
According to a witness, a man jumped off the fifth floor indoor atrium at approximately 3:45pm.
The man survived but sustained life-threatening injuries in the incident. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital.
Police are now investigating the incident.

An event that was scheduled to take place tonight has also been cancelled.
