Police announced this afternoon that they arrested a suspect yesterday wanted in a fatal shooting in the Bayview on Saturday that killed 18-year-old Marshawn Byrd.

Police responding to a call of a shooting on the 1400 Block of Palou Avenue at 3:38pm that afternoon discovered Byrd suffering from several gunshot wounds. Paramedics from the Fire Department responded to assist him, but Byrd died from his wounds at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.

Yesterday, around 2:37pm, plainclothes officers from Bayview Station arrested a 17-year-old male suspect on the 1500 block of Geneva Avenue using information developed by the homicide department and investigators from its Gang Task Force.

Investigators determined that the suspect was also wanted in a shooting on July 10 on the 1400 block of Innes Ave. that left a 32-year-old man with non-life threatening wounds.

Because the suspect is a juvenile, police are not releasing a mugshot or his name. The youth was booked on charges of murder and attempted murder at the city’s Juvenile Justice Center near Laguna Honda.

Police are still asking anyone with information in the case to contact them anonymously via the department's tipline at (415) 575-4444, or by texting TIP411, starting the message with "SFPD."
