Hair Streak: 'One Up Salon' Continues Shop's 45-Year TraditionPhotos: Camden Avery/Hoodline

Haight Street bade farewell to Trimmers (1576 Haight St.) earlier this month, but the spot continues to style hair, now operating as One Up Salon under the auspices of new owner Wayne Tran.

Trimmers held the spot for 21 years, but the location's roots as a barber shop go back even farther, said veteran stylist Michael Xavier. Previous iterations included an extensions salon, another salon, and a barber shop before that. All told, he said, the shop has been operating continuously as a hair stop for over 45 years.

The salon reopened on August 25th after a remodeling sprint that opened up the clerestory window, overhauled the floors and windowsills, daubed on a fresh coat of paint and installed a new register/reception counter.

One Up Salon is open 10–7 weekdays, from 10–6 on Saturday and from 11–5 on Sunday. Prices are the same as Trimmers, with cuts starting at $22.
