Earlier this afternoon, an assault in the Outer Sunset escalated into a hostage situation.

Police responded to reports of an assault at 1:57pm. 

The area is still shut down as police investigate the scene, Officer Grace Gatpandan told us.

The suspect reportedly barricaded himself in a house and assaulted another person with a weapon. A hostage negotiation team also responded to the scene and took the suspect into custody. 

The victim was treated for his injuries at a nearby hospital, and is expected to survive.

Citing the ongoing investigation, Officer Gatpandan could not give us further details about the suspect, the victim, and what led to the incident.

Update, 10/17, 9:46am: Police said that the suspect and victim, both 47-year-old men, were arguing, when the suspect grabbed an ax and assaulted the victim. The suspect then retreated into the home and refused to come out.
