The unexpected passing last summer of Tang Huynh, longtime owner of Shrader Clean (at Waller & Shrader) was a shock to many in the neighborhood, but it turned his family's life upside-down.

After a brief closure, Tang's wife, Maggie, resumed full operations of the dry cleaners with the help of their daughter Alisha, who took the fall semester off from studying at UC Riverside to help run the family business.

Now, Cole Valley neighbors Oliver Hack, Heidi Hartsough, Betsy Crain, Ellen Conant and Ron Fortgang have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help Alisha resume her studies as a sophomore in science and pre-med.

"Tang touched us all with his open smile and positive outlook on life," the page reads. "As a community, we want to help this family raise money for his daughter, Alisha."

The campaign, which launched earlier this month to cover Alisha's books, tuition, and room and board, has raised $3,612 towards a goal of $20,000.
