'Ascend Body' Fitness Studio Finds New Location In The MissionPhoto: Teresa Hammerl/Hoodline

Ascend Body is relocating to a new space at 2415 Mission St. (at 20th) for a solid reason: "we outgrew our old location," said owner Shane Young.

After the move, the fitness studio will close its location at 16th and Mission, located in the same building that houses Yoga to the People.

“I’m excited to now be on street level,” said Young, who said the area is an up-and-coming corridor. The new location offers more natural light, a benefit he plans to leverage by adding larger rear windows.

Young said his holistically-inspired boutique studio is based on the four pillars of exercise, nutrition, restoration and positive thinking. The studio offers semi-private personal training for up to four people and small group personal training for groups up to 15.

Clients can also schedule a session to create a custom nutrition plan or come in for a massage, while Young himself has corrective holistic exercise kinesiology (C.H.E.K) certifications. The ideal workout routine includes working with your thoughts, being aware of your body, eating good food and drinking clean water, he said.

When he signed the lease, ”the space was an empty shell,” Young said, but they've since added three massage rooms and bathrooms. The space formerly housed artist collective 20 Mission Hive, which was part of co-living community 20 Mission.

“I had no idea what it takes to move a business to a new location,” Young told us. “It requires heavy lifting in a literal and metaphorical way."

When we visited on Friday, new equipment was waiting to be unpacked and more items were being delivered. Young said he plans to add more plants and  a few mirrors before he's finished decorating the space.

To engage neighbors, he said he's offering 20 discounted memberships and wellness workshops to Mission residents. Those who are interested can come in to inquire about the details after April 9th.

The fitness studio might also add healthy drinks and food to their offerings, but for now, coffee shop and laundromat Laundré offer paleo diet friendly options on their menu.

Ascend Body will be open Monday to Saturday from 6am to 8:30pm and on Sunday for boost sessions at 9am and semi-private classes at 10am. Yoga classes on Sunday at 11 am will be offered in the future. Bookings can be made online.
