Here are some notable incidents that have taken place since our last biweekly recap covering SFPD's Central District, which encompasses Chinatown, Financial District, Embarcadero, Russian, Telegraph and Nob Hills, North Beach, and Union Square. 

Unless otherwise noted, all reports are drawn from the department's daily summary.

Man suffers serious injuries in Portsmouth Square assault

On March 29th at 6:45pm on the 700 block of Kearny Street, a 58-year-old man was knocked unconscious by a male suspect described as 50 years old.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Read our full coverage of the incident here

Victim in life-threatening condition after robbery

A 53-year-old man is in life-threatening condition after a robbery April 7th at 8am at the intersection of Beach and Polk Streets near Ghirardelli Square. 

According to police, the victim was walking in the tourist-heavy area when a unknown male suspect attacked him and stole a check. The suspect then fled in an unknown direction. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment. No arrest has been made. 

Unknown suspect sets fire to apartment door

On April 5th at 1:30am on the 1000 block of Larkin Street in Lower Nob Hill, SFFD responded to a call that an apartment door had been lit on fire. 

When police arrived, the fire had been extinguished by firefighters and no suspect was spotted. No injuries or damage to the building were reported. 

Woman robbed of her phone while in use

At 4:20pm April 3rd on the 1800 block of Montgomery Street in North Beach a 35-year-old woman was robbed of her cell phone.

The victim was talking on her phone when an unknown male suspect struck her and absconded with the stolen item. No injuries were reported in the incident. 

Hot prowler steals 90-year-old woman's car

A hot prowl burglar robbed a 90-year-old woman's home April 1st at 11:30pm on the 1000 block of Filbert Street in Russian Hill. 

The victim heard "noises in her home," according to police and then noticed doors to the house left ajar. After realizing that her wallet and keys were missing, she determined that her car had been stolen. No arrests have been made in the case. 

Man held down and robbed

On the 200 block of Stockton Street in Union Square on March 31st at 10:30pm, an 20-year-old man was attacked and robbed. 

The victim was approached from behind by two men in their early twenties when one of the suspects grabbed him and held him down. The second suspect stole the victim's cell phone before both suspects fled on foot southbound on Stockton Street. 

Victim transported to hospital after robbery and attack

Also in Union Square on March 30th at 11:35pm on the 100 block of Powell Street, a 23-year-old man was attacked and robbed. 

According to police, the victim was walking home when he was struck by two men in their early twenties and knocked to the ground. The suspects then went through the victim's pockets, snatched his cell phone and fled on foot into the Powell Street BART station. 

The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. 

Man stabbed with scissors while walking

Near the intersection of Market and Front Streets in the FiDi on March 30th at 5pm, a 39-year-old man was stabbed with a pair of scissors. 

The victim was walking when a male suspect between 30 and 35 approached him from behind and stabbed him. The suspect then fled on foot. 

The victim, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, transported himself to a hospital for treatment. 

Woman pushed from behind and robbed

On March 29th at 2:15am near the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Stockton Street in Chinatown, a robbery with force occurred. 

A 35-year-old woman was approached from behind by a man in his forties who pushed her to the ground. As the victim fell, she dropped her cell phone. The suspect then snatched the device and got into an awaiting vehicle and fled the scene. 

Robbery suspects steal deodorant and toothpaste

In Fisherman's Wharf on the 100 block of Jefferson Street March 26th at 8:40pm, two women in their twenties robbed an area store. 

The two suspects entered a business and placed deodorant and toothpaste into a bag without paying. A 26-year-old woman working as security approached the pair, but they assaulted her and fled the store with the items. 

The security guard reported non-life-threatening injuries, but was not transported for treatment. 

Hot prowler arrested on scene with stolen goods

A 35-year-old woman was arrested for hot prowl burglary on March 25th at 2:22am on the 800 block of Post Street in Lower Nob Hill. 

The suspect was observed wandering in the building, according to police who were called to the scene. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect with a stolen cell phone, laptop and necklace that belonged to a 78-year-old female resident. 

After watching surveillance video of the suspect breaking into apartments, including the 78-year-old woman's home, police took her into custody.
