A car chase that began in the Western Addition between police and an auto burglary suspect this morning ended in Civic Center after an officer-involved shooting, reported SFPD.

The incident began around 12:59 a.m. near the intersection of Steiner Street and Geary Boulevard, where uniformed officers "in a marked police car" had detained a suspect while investigating a car break-in. A second suspect ran to a white Hyundai sedan parked near O'Farrell and Webster streets, got in, and fled the area.

Multiple police cars pursued the suspect, but "a series of events occurred" on the 1500 block of O'Farrell Street that included an officer-involved shooting and collisions between the fugitive driver and two marked police cars. "No one was struck by gunfire in this incident," according to a police statement.

Police pursued the fleeing suspect to an area near Polk and McAllister streets, where he stopped and was taken into custody. Both suspects were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and an officer was treated at the scene for injuries he suffered on O'Farrell Street.

The shooting is under investigation by multiple agencies, including the District Attorney's office, the Department of Police Accountability, and the department's Internal Affairs Division and Homicide Detail. In keeping with department policy, SFPD will hold a town hall meeting in the next ten days to discuss the incident.

Anyone who has information about this incident is encouraged to contact SFPD via the department's anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444, or text TIP411 with "SFPD" at the start of the message.
