Here's a selection of crimes that have occurred in Hayes Valley and the Western Addition since our last roundup in early August. All reports were provided by SFPD, unless otherwise noted.

Hot prowler steals sleeping victim's electronics

A 37-year-old man woke up in his home on the 500 block of Grove Street on September 2 at 9 a.m. to find his rear window open. His front door was unlocked as well, and a laptop and a video game console were missing. 

Muni cell phone robbery

On August 31 at 3:35 p.m. a 20- to 25-year-old man grabbed a 15-year-old woman's cell phone while they were riding a Muni bus near Geary Boulevard and Fillmore Street. The suspect then exited the bus and ran in an unknown direction.

Burglar comes into home through rear door

On August 19, a 51-year-old woman was inside her home on the 2200 block of Octavia Street when a 40 to 50-year-old man entered through a rear door without her knowledge between 4 and 5 p.m. The suspect stole a backpack, money, a cell phone and a tablet before fleeing the scene in an unknown direction.

Trio of teens make off with smartphone

On August 11, a 35-year-old woman was walking at Geary Boulevard and Buchanan Street at 1:15 p.m. when three teenage boys, aged 15 to 16, approached her from behind. One suspect grabbed the woman's smartphone and struggled with her. He was then able to steal the phone, and all three suspects fled southbound on Buchanan Street.

Aggravated assault with SUV

A man was riding his motorcycle at Gough and Sutter streets on August 6 at 3:45 p.m., when a 60-year-old woman swerved her white SUV and made contact with him. The woman then continued to swerve several times, in an attempt to make contact with the victim as he evaded the SUV. The suspect in the SUV eventually fled the area northbound on Buchanan Street.

Northern Station monthly community meeting

Residents interested in learning more about crime and safety in the district are invited to attend Northern Station's community meetings, held at the station (1125 Fillmore St.) at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month.
