An Austin woman is fighting back with a lawsuit against her former living complex, Sangria Park Apartments, formerly Mueller Apartments, after claiming a faulty door lock led to her sexual assault. According to a CBS Austin report, the victim alleged the apartment's negligence to repair a broken lock, despite her repeated maintenance requests over a year, directly contributed to the incident.

In a harrowing recount obtained by KVUE, the unidentified woman spoke up about her ordeal, detailing how an intruder assaulted her while she was asleep in her bed. Fighting for her life, the woman managed to fend off the attacker, who fled through the same entry point that she had previously reported as compromised.

Anna Greenberg, the attorney representing the victim, underscored the severity of the situation. "When you wake up and you're being sexually assaulted in your own bed somewhere where you're supposed to be safe, you know nothing feels safe to you after that,” she told CBS Austin. The legal claim revolves around the property management's glaring oversight and purported violation of the property code.

The victim and her roommate, having not only sought repairs but were denied even a request to fortify their home with a safety bar, told them that it would be at their own expense by the complex. "I suffered tremendously through these last two years. I'm really not even the same person," the victim recounted to CBS Austin in a powerful testimony.

Austin Police have since arrested Octavio Contreras Guzman in connection with the assault. Investigators revealed that Guzman had targeted other women in nearby complexes and was apprehended while peeping into windows. The suspect has also been linked to hidden cameras placed around other apartment complexes by APD, as mentioned in KVUE's coverage of this disturbing case.
