Chicago Police Issue Alert for Attempted Kidnapping Suspect in Central AvenueSource: Google Street View

Residents of the 16th District in Chicago have been put on high alert after an attempted kidnapping transpired in broad daylight earlier this month. A community notice distributed by the Chicago Police details the frightening encounter that occurred on April 18, where a 15-year-old girl narrowly escaped abduction while waiting at a bus stop. The incident happened in the Jeffery Manor neighborhood, a residential area often bustling with commuters and schoolchildren in the morning hours.

The police describe the suspect as a male, possibly White or Hispanic, in his late twenties, sporting a goatee and brown hair. He reportedly tried to coerce the teenager into his vehicle, threatening to seize her forcefully. Thankfully, a vigilant passerby, a female adult, intervened. She confronted the man, who claimed to know the young girl, before driving away, according to a statement from the police.

The suspect's car was caught on camera, a distinctive yellow Corvette from the mid-90s with a black convertible top, last seen cruising westward on Foster Ave. and then heading south on Central Ave. past Addison Ave. While the police are continuing their investigation, they're also reaching out to the community to be vigilant. If anyone spots the described vehicle, they are to immediately call 911, particularly noting the vehicle's license plate number, if possible.

In addition to the search for the kidnapper, the police are urging residents to inform and instruct their children on how to react in such situations. "Call 911 if they are approached by any person forcing them to get into their vehicle," the department advises
