Dolton's Legal Struggles Intensify as Mayor Henyard Faces FBI Probe, Del Galdo Law Group Seeks ExitSource: Village of Dolton

The embattled Village of Dolton and its mayor, Tiffany Henyard, are facing an increasing legal debacle as their representative law firm, The Del Galdo Law Group, has declared its intent to withdraw from multiple cases, citing a substantial risk of not being paid for its services. This announcement comes amid an ongoing FBI investigation probing allegations of corruption against the mayor, as reported by FOX 32 Chicago.

Based on the contents of a letter sent by The Del Galdo Law Group to Henyard and the village trustees, the firm outlined that Dolton is potentially facing insurmountable financial judgments from previous cases, and the looming threat of millions more in damages pending the current litigation according to the same FOX 32 Chicago article. With Del Galdo scheduled to file motions to withdraw by May 8, the future of the village's legal representation hangs in the balance, especially since Del Galdo's withdrawal could mark the village's descent into a position where acquiring new insurance coverage could be challenging if not impossible.

Adding to the turmoil, The Chicago Tribune reports that village Trustees, who have underscored their dissatisfaction with the frequency and clarity of legal updates on pending lawsuits, voted already in February to rescind Del Galdo's role in those suits. The mayor, however, responded by vetoing their actions, only to be overridden by subsequent Trustee votes. The Trustees had also directed Del Galdo to hand over all files to another law firm, Odelson, Murphey, Frazier & McGrath, but payments have remained an ongoing issue, with partner Burt Odelson stating their work has gone unpaid for two years. "We're sticking with them, we're not bailing" Odelson asserted, despite the firm being owed "hundreds of thousands" of dollars in legal fees, and though village trustees approved payments to Odelson's firm, these have not materialized owing to the mayor's refusal to authorize checks.

The Del Galdo Law Group's departure from Dolton's legal battles is not an isolated event, as the village’s legal turmoil is compounded by a fresh wave of FBI subpoenas delivered in the context of a grand jury investigation. This action, part of a broader inquiry into allegations of corruption, saw federal agents delivering subpoenas to Thornton Township, where Henyard also holds a position as township supervisor, this twist in the already convoluted narrative broke on the Saturday night news cycle by FOX 32.
