Hingham Woman Charged with DUI After Striking Cyclist with Cadillac EscaladeSource: Hingham Police

HINGHAM, Mass. — A Hingham woman faces charges of driving under the influence following a collision with a cyclist early Friday morning. According to Hingham Police, 59-year-old Marcia Durant Way is accused of striking a 39-year-old bicyclist while operating her 2009 Cadillac Escalade.

Police officers and emergency crews were called to the scene at the intersection of Otis Street, Downer Avenue, and Daley Road around 12:38 a.m., where they discovered the injured cyclist lying in the roadway. Boston 25 News reported the victim was transported to South Shore Hospital with injuries that are serious but not life-threatening. The driver, Way, was found at the scene, unharmed.

Investigators concluded that the cyclist was headed north on Otis Street when Way, travelling down Downer Avenue, did not yield the right-of-way and hit the bicyclist, as noted by the Newport Dispatch. Authorities charged Way with operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation, and failure to slow or yield.

After processing the accident, Way's vehicle, which bore evidence of front-end damage, was towed. Arrested at the scene, Way was later released on personal recognizance. Having faced arraignment in Hingham District Court on Friday, further details about the legal proceedings are pending.
