A man lost his life in a parking lot shooting at Bartholomew District Park in East Austin, as the Austin Police Department continues its investigation into the events that tragically unfolded Wednesday night. According to CBS Austin, the police received a call at 9:01 p.m. about gunshots near the basketball courts. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim inside a vehicle with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The shootout has prompted a labyrinth of police activity to closely shut down parts of the park. Eyewitnesses observed as multiple first responders and investigators thoroughly searched the area and focused their attention on a silver four-door car. Despite no suspects being in custody, APD announced that they believed the incident to be isolated and reassured the public that there appeared to be no further threat.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was urgently transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. As this story develops, KXAN confirmed the location of the incident to be near East 51st Street and Berkman Drive and reiterated that police arrived shortly after 9 p.m.
