A San Francisco man has been convicted of a felony hit-and-run that left a 65-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office reported. Will Thomas, 59, hit the woman as she crossed an intersection on her way to work and then fled the scene.

After a trial by jury, Thomas was found guilty of felony hit and run with injury; the victim was especially vulnerable, and the crime was noted for its level of violence, great bodily injury, and a high degree of viciousness or callousness. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins thanked the jury for their service, stating, “The jury’s verdict delivers justice to the victim and her family and also sends a message that there will be accountability for these types of incidents.” according to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.

The jury learned during the trial that on October 4, 2023, at approximately 5:47 AM, the accident occurred at the intersection of O’Farrell and St. Joseph Streets, where paramedics were needed to rush the victim to a local emergency room to treat multiple brain bleeds and rib fractures. The prosecution team, led by Assistant District Attorney Samantha Adhikari and supported by a robust investigative crew, highlighted the victim’s coma and tough recovery journey.

Assistant District Attorney Samantha Adhikari praised the victim's and her family's resilience. “Despite that, she has made progress as a result of her and her family’s resilience.  I hope this verdict provides them with some solace and strength as she continues to recover.  I am grateful to the jury for providing justice to the victim, family, and the community at large.,” according to the press release. Thomas, who was remanded into custody upon reading the verdict, is now facing up to three years in state prison, with his sentencing scheduled for May 13.
