For the second time in less than a week, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers were on hand at the University of Texas at Austin on Monday, as protests concerning both the support of Palestinians and the layoffs tied with the university's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) offices unraveled. The Texas State Employees Union (TSEU) began the demonstration on the Main Mall in front of the UT Tower Monday afternoon, according to KVUE.

Shortly after the TSEU rally began, pro-Palestine protesters joined in, setting up camp with several tents. The University of Texas Police Department (UTPD) was quick to react, issuing a dispersal order around 1 p.m., advising people to immediately leave the South Mall area. The DPS troopers arrived on the scene approximately 30 minutes later, seemingly prepared to fully disperse those gathered, as reported by KXAN. Protesters chanted, "There's no riot here. Why are you in riot gear?" as troopers took position. Last week's protest led to the arrest of dozens, which were subsequently released with all charges dropped, giving the backdrop against which these students chose to once again gather and raise their voices.

During the rally, an occurrence not yet cleared up was caught by journalists, whereby a protest campsite was being dismantled at around 1:50 p.m. by DPS troopers, and the first detainment is said to have occurred shortly thereafter. A third-party medic group was reported to have arrived at 2:01 p.m., at the behest of the students involved. This situation continues to develop, as students and law enforcement seem to be in a stalemate. Protesters circled their camp in what appeared to be a protective manner, only to watch it be taken down by the troopers, as per KXAN.
