Tragedy struck Wauconda on Wednesday morning when a violent crash between a dump truck and a sedan claimed two lives and left another person fighting for life. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies reported to the catastrophic scene after the truck, loaded with concrete, toppled onto its side at the intersection of Fairfield Road and Chardon Road, according to NBC Chicago.

The sedan, which was aiming to cross the intersection on Chardon Road, collided with the dump truck as it journeyed northbound on Fairfield Road. This encounter forced the truck off balance, overturning it and consequentially spilling its heavy cargo onto the roadway. Authorities pronounced the driver of the sedan dead at the scene alongside a passenger who was seated in the rear, while the impact critically injured a front-seat passenger, who was then rushed to the hospital with severe injuries.

Traffic updates from Total Traffic indicated that Fairfield Road was shut down in both directions between Gilmer Road and Route 60 due to the ongoing investigation and the cleanup of debris from the crash. Commuters were advised to seek alternative routes as crews worked at the site of the collision.
