Miami's Deering Estate is showing its support for America's armed forces this summer by offering free admission to military personnel and their families. The historic estate is joining forces with the Blue Star Museums initiative to provide a cultural getaway for those in uniform from Armed Forces Day through Labor Day.

According to a release by Miami-Dade County, military members and up to five relatives can freely explore the Deering Estate, a place where history, art, and the environment converge. To take advantage of the offer, eligible visitors need to present military identification, including common access cards (CAC) or DD Form 1173 ID cards among others. This is part of a collaborative program led by the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families, alongside the Department of Defense, to directly connect service members with the arts and culture.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava stated, "We are so proud to be part of the Blue Star Museums Initiative. Admission to Deering Estate is a small token of our gratitude for the immense dedication and service of our military men and women." The mayor emphasized the importance of community engagement and enrichment for those who serve, as quoted by the Miami-Dade County's announcement.

Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD, chair of the National Endowment for the Arts, expressed her gratitude towards participating institutions like the Deering Estate for helping families to possibly create, new enduring memories. She encouraged military families to engage with their new surroundings through this opportunity that the Blue Star Museums program provides, especially for those recently relocated due to their service duties.

Blue Star Families CEO Kathy Roth-Douquet highlighted in the Miami-Dade County's press release, the importance of the program, saying, "Access to museums enriches military families, creates wonderful family memories, and helps us feel connected to our communities so that we can thrive and do the hard job we have to do for the country." With its 14th year running, the Blue Star Museums program is a testament to the organizations' commitment to military families across the nation.

The Deering Estate, known for its rich heritage and ecological significance, doesn't only serve as a house museum but also as a field station that's vital for cultural, educational, and recreational experiences in the community.
