In the wake of an emergency that would test the resourcefulness of first responders, a stabbing victim in Portland's Rockwood neighborhood received life-saving aid under critical circumstances. Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R) Engine 31 arrived shortly after midnight yesterday, to a scene marred by violence. They discovered a person with multiple stab wounds, barely clinging to life. Facing a dire situation compounded by the absence of available ambulances – AMR was reportedly at "level zero" – the emergency crew proved their mettle, according to official statements.

With the closest ambulance en route from Clackamas County, it fell on the shoulders of the PF&R crew to find an alternative means of transport. They made the decisive move to use an on-scene Gresham Police car, a decision that underscored an unyielding commitment to the patient’s survival. “Seconds matter on critical trauma incidents,” Rick Graves of PF&R was quoted saying. “Whether we transport you in an ambulance or find a another way to get you to the hospital if an ambulance is unavailable, we’re gonna do it,” he emphasized the resolve of the team in an official release.

Assisting in this impromptu relay of care, the Gresham police officers collaborated with the PF&R crew to load the patient—whose identity and current condition have not been disclosed—into the police car using a lifting tarp. The wounded individual was then hastily transported "Code 3" to the nearest emergency department.
