A late-night tragedy struck Fremont Blvd. last week, claiming the life of an unidentified pedestrian in a collision that Fremont Police believe was fueled by alcohol. The incident, occurring around 11:30 p.m. on May 3, marks Fremont's first fatal traffic catastrophe of the year.
Emergency responders rushed to the 45000 block of Fremont Blvd. after a 9-1-1 call was made, where officers found the pedestrian with severe injuries. Despite the police administering CPR and an AED, the victim passed away at the scene just after the Fremont Fire Department and medical personnel arrived, taking over the emergency procedures.
The driver, identified as 58-year-old Hung Vuu of Sunnyvale, was involved in a subsequent accident with a traffic signal pole. Transported to the hospital with minor injuries sustained during the second collision, Vuu was arrested following investigations. Fremont Police Department, in a press release, stated that "Alcohol impairment is believed to be a factor in this collision," which remains under active investigation.
