Basketball icon Candace Parker is trading in her sneakers for the executive suite, as she's just been named president of Adidas Women’s Basketball, hot on the heels of her retirement announcement. Not one to rest on her laurels, Parker, known for her time as Lady Vol For Life and sporting accolades galore, is now set to preside over the hoops division of the sportswear titan, WVLT reported.

The move is hardly a layup for Adidas; Parker is bringing years of court experience and a solid decade-plus partnership with the brand, since signing with Adidas in her WNBA rookie year, and all while she helped escalate women's basketball into the major leagues, amid record ratings for the NCAA tournament in 2024, Parker's pivot to the boardroom could mean big plays for Adidas, even as WNBA viewership is expected to surge with stars like Caitlin Clark now on the pro courts, according to Knox News.

The scope of her new role is as wide as the paint; Parker's duties will encompass "pretty much everything" from product development to player endorsements and how the brand communicates with female basketball athletes, Knox News detailed in a statement. "I don’t want to be a mascot," Parker asserted in a Fast Company interview, eager to call the shots from the boardroom to the sales floor.
