A shooting in East Knoxville has left one man dead, the Knoxville Police Department reported. The incident occurred late Tuesday night on Prospect Place in the Morningside area. Following a distress call around 11:40 p.m., officers rushed to the scene where they found the victim with at least one gunshot wound, according to WBIR.

Despite being taken quickly to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, the unidentified man was pronounced dead. As of now, Knoxville police have yet to publicly release a description of the person responsible for the shooting. However, Scott Erland, KPD’s Communications Manager told WVLT that officers are "canvassing the area" in hopes of rapidly bringing to justice the individual responsible.

The urgency of the response underscores the KPD's commitment to addressing violent crime in the community, as the Homicide Unit detectives now carry the onus to unravel the circumstances that culminated in the man's death.
