The North Miami City Council, in a contentious decision that went against a swell of public support, fired City Manager Rasha Cameau after a 3-1 vote on Tuesday, according to reports from Local 10 News. Despite what some residents describe as Cameau's successful efforts in reversing the city's financial decline and improving staff morale, the council chose to terminate her contract after just a year in the role.

Cameau, credited with the revival of a multimillion-dollar water supply project and a tough stance on accountability, found support from North Miami residents, who rallied at City Hall with signs and megaphones, Councilman Scott Galvin also stood by her thanking Cameau for her service and ranking her "above them all" in his experience working with city managers, this is as was captured by 7News. Emotional scenes unfolded as Cameau, hugged by her supporters, shared her immediate plans to take a break and go on vacation before reassessing her future.

Dissenting voices from the community accused the council of running a "coup" and pursuing personal agendas, as one North Miami resident lamented the repetitive cycle of starting over based on personal whims rather than the will of the constituents, Councilwoman Kassandra Timothe, who initiated the motion to dismiss Cameau, publicly stated her reasons were due to a "lack of confidence, trust, faith that you are best fit to lead this city" in an earlier meeting according to 7News.

Further odds were raised on allegations of possible Sunshine Law violations and concerns that Cameau had been at loggerheads with council members over budget and oversight matters, Local 10 News reports community members showing concern over council spending and the dedication of their elected officials following the upheaval. In the interim, the Community Redevelopment Agency Executive Director Anna-Bo Emmanuel, Esq has been named as the new city manager.
