Oakland Driver Services Center Closes Temporarily, Memphis Area Kiosks to Fill in During RepairsSource: Google Street View

Oaklanders in need of driver services will have to steer their way to alternative locations this week. The Oakland Driver Services Center, situated at 160 Beau Tisdale Drive, has temporarily closed operations due to a busted water pipe. According to an official announcement from the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, the facility will remain closed through May 10 as repairs are underway.

Customers are rerouted to locations including the East Shelby Drive Driver Services Center and Summer Avenue Driver Services Center, among others sprawled across Memphis and its suburbs. These are expected to pick up the slack and service the Oakland community while the local hub is on the fritz. Notably, however, only certain kiosks, such as those at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library and Germantown City Hall, will provide limited operations like duplicates and renewals of non-commercial driver licenses.

The inconvenience has sparked some grumbles among residents, who now face the prospect of longer lines and commutes just to sort out their driving credentials. Nevertheless, officials are urging patience and reminding folks that these closures are for the betterment of the services and safety of all.

Those affected by the closure can check out the full list of alternate locations on the Department's website, including the Memphis Police Appling Farms Station Kiosk and Shelby County Clerk Kiosk, suited to accommodate the driver service needs of the public during this repair period. The Department has assured that they are working swiftly to expedite the restoration of regular services at the Oakland Driver Services Center.
