Drawing on research conducted by UTSA's Sustainable Pervasive Urban Resilience (SPUR) Center, city officials are mapping the hot spots to pinpoint where they might best allocate relief resources for those baking in the Texas heat.

San Antonio Chief Sustainability Officer Doug Melnick has rung the climate alarm, stating, "Summers in San Antonio are only getting hotter – and for longer periods of time," in a statement obtained by the city's news platform, some parts of the city can blaze hotter than others which puts certain residents in a vulnerable position to the rising temperatures, identifying those districts hit hardest is viewed as a crucial step in the City’s ongoing climate-resilient urban planning.

Last year’s Cool Pavement pilot program tested a roster of heat-beating pavement products with SealMaster emerging as the top performer, showing an average temperature plunge of 3.58 degrees and peaking at a whopping 18 degrees cooler than new asphalt. Not to be overshadowed, the alternative GAF product turned in a solid performance, enhancing skid resistance for safer streets, according to the data released by the city's administration.
