San Francisco Woman Convicted of Grand Theft in Prolific Target Shoplifting SpreeSource: Google Street View

A San Francisco woman has been busted for a one-woman shoplifting spree, bankrolling a lavish lifestyle with items nicked from a local Target. Aziza Graves, 43, who hit up the Stonestown Galleria Target on multiple occasions, was convicted of one felony count of grand theft and 52 counts of petty theft, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office reported. Graves' modus operandi involved grabbing goods off the shelves and only pretending to fully pay at self-checkout with minimal cash, sometimes as low as a bill or a coin.

San Francisco DA Brooke Jenkins stated, "Retail theft continues to have a major impact on San Francisco businesses," according to a press release from her office. She condemned the "brazen and repeated conduct" of individuals like Graves and vowed to prosecute vigorously to protect retailers and the public. The convicted shoplifter managed to smoothly walk away with over $60,000 worth of merchandise between October 2020 and November 2021.

Graves' operation was eventually caught by the combined efforts of the San Francisco District Attorneys' Investigative Bureau and the San Francisco Police Department's Burglary Unit. Surveillance revealed Graves selling her ill-gotten gains at UN Plaza to vendors and even passersby on the streets, the DA's office detailed.

"The jury heard and considered a large volume of evidence over several weeks," Assistant District Attorney Conrad Del Rosario shared, highlighting the careful deliberations the jury had to undergo before rendering their verdict. Graves is set to face more than three years behind bars for her offenses and will hear her sentence on May 24, noted the District Attorney's press release. Despite the hefty toll her crimes took on local businesses, Graves remains out of custody until then.
