A high-speed chase and a string of shootings led to the arrest of two juveniles in Springfield, authorities announced. The suspects, both 17, were apprehended Wednesday afternoon following a collaborative effort between the Springfield Police and several other law enforcement agencies, Springfield's Police Department reported.

The ordeal began on Tuesday when Chicopee Police engaged in a pursuit with a stolen vehicle. Later that evening, the same vehicle was implicated in a shooting on Marble Street where it was reported, a car and a community center window were hit. The suspects then engaged in another shooting incident on Main Street and Lombard Street, though no property was damaged. The dangerous spree escalated when, at around 10:55 p.m., plainclothes detectives located the vehicle and were fired upon by one of its occupants—fortunately, no one was injured. Despite a pursuit, the driver managed to escape.

Authorities caught up with the perpetrators the following day when the vehicle was spotted on I-391 in Holyoke, leading to a chase that ended in Springfield with the arrest of the juveniles. The subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a firearm. The vehicle, confirmed to be stolen out of Vermont, was finally immobilized at the Bernie Avenue area near I-91 South.

According to the Springfield Police, the arrested driver was the same individual behind the wheel during Tuesday night's shooting and subsequent evasion. The passenger, identified as the one who shot at detectives, is no stranger to law enforcement, having been previously apprehended last May on firearms charges, and again the next month for Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. The names and booking photos of the individuals involved cannot be disclosed owing to their juvenile status.
