A West Philadelphia neighborhood became the backdrop for a grim story early Wednesday morning when a domestic dispute turned fatal, authorities said. A 15-year-old girl is in custody after her grandmother was found dead with multiple stab wounds in the family home. According to FOX 29, the teen placed a 911 call just after 2 a.m. from the residence on Cobbs Creek Parkway, leading officers to a grisly scene.

The Philadelphia police stated that upon entering through a front window, they discovered a 66-year-old woman stabbed in an upstairs bedroom. She was pronounced dead at the scene, her identity remaining unannounced at the time. In a report by 6ABC, it was revealed that a knife, believed to be the weapon used in the altercation, was recovered from the upstairs of the house.

Investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing, with the Philadelphia police taking the teenager into custody. She is currently being questioned by police, as noted in both reports. "It sounds like it was a domestic disturbance that turned into a stabbing," a police spokesperson, Ganard, elaborated in an interview covered by NBC Philadelphia.

Philadelphia officials have touted a 35% drop in homicides in 2024, with at least 87 people killed thus far this year. No one else besides the girl and woman were at home when the authorities arrived, police said.
