A 16-year-old has been arrested by Detroit police in connection to a shooting that left four people wounded, including two children and a pregnant teenager, at Stein Park in Detroit. The incident, which unfolded last Wednesday night, escalated from a dispute between two women at the playground, as reported by the Detroit Free Press.

The altercation led to one of the women calling for a male companion, who allegedly arrived at the scene with a firearm concealed in his backpack. He reportedly fired four shots, hitting two unsuspecting children, ages 3 and 6, and two 18-year-old women, CBS Detroit stated.

Among the victims was a pregnant woman who is now "fighting for her life," according to a statement obtained by the Detroit News.

Detroit Police Chief James White announced the suspect's apprehension but has not released details regarding the minor or the exact circumstances surrounding the arrest. "What led to it? Who was involved? Who could have done something? Who could have intervene? Where did the gun come from? Where were the parents? All of that is going to come into play. But right now, the community just needs to know that there is no further risk of the suspects are this suspect, hurting anyone else." White disclosed in an interview with CBS Detroit.

As the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has yet to charge the teenager, authorities continue their investigation to determine how the teen came into possession of the weapon and whether additional suspects were involved. In a statement obtained by the Detroit News, White said Police are looking into the origins of the suspected gun and "all aspects that led to this moment in time and the tragedy of four people being shot." Furthermore, White did not rule out potential charges for the parents of the suspect.

While police have reassured the public that no additional danger is posed by the suspect. Dujuan "Zoe" Kennedy of Force Detroit told the Detroit Free Press that their group is engaged in outreach and de-escalation efforts. Kennedy expressed “It’s a tragedy that this escalated to the point where children were shot. At no point is this acceptable to our community,” and emphasized  “We are doing outreach to mitigate any retaliation or trauma. Community accountability, and guidance is what we aim to demonstrate at all times.”
