UT Austin's Graduation Celebrations Prompt Multiple Road Closures in AustinSource: Patsy Lynch, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons

The University of Texas at Austin is decking its halls for a massive graduation fete this week, and with it, roadblocks are springing up around campus. Local drivers, get ready to reroute – commencement and convocation ceremonies are sending usual traffic patterns to the sidelines. Several roads will be closed off between Thursday and Saturday, synchronizing with the festivities, according to KVUE.

Starting Thursday, from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., revelers and grads will have to navigate a closure on Robert Dedman Dr. and a shutdown on Clyde Littlefield Drive, all to make space for celebratory processions at the convocations. As per KVUE, getting to the Moody Center and Lady Bird Johnson Auditorium could be a squeeze with 20th St. also off-limits during these times.

Friday ramps up the closures with a 6 a.m. to just before midnight lockdown on several key streets, affecting travel around campus-centric hubs like Gregory Gym and Hogg Memorial Auditorium. And the gridlock hits its peak on Saturday, with day-long shutdowns mapped out on significant arteries such as San Jacinto Blvd and Dean Keeton St., starting at the witching hour and stretching to 10 p.m., right as the all-colleges commencement wraps at the Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Despite the tangle of road closures, there's a silver lining for visitors – parking won't cost a dime at nearly all University garages, as detailed by KXAN. However, the Conference Center Garage (CCG) and Nueces Garage (NUG) remain the exception. Police detail from UT and Austin PD will play traffic conductor, ensuring paths remain clear for the footfalls of eager graduates and their cheering kin.
