A fatal shooting on San Antonio's northeast side has left one man dead and a woman in critical condition, authorities report. The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) responded to a distress call from the 4900 block of Champlain Drive at approximately 7:35 p.m., where officers discovered two victims with gunshot wounds, as reported by KENS 5. The deceased, a 53-year-old man, and the injured, a 51-year-old woman, have not been officially identified by police.

Two others present in the home, one a minor and the other an adult, reportedly ran to a neighbor's house to seek help following the shooting, a neighbor then called the police according to a statement obtained by FOX San Antonio, the circumstances of the shooting suggest it may have been an attempted murder-suicide, plunging a family into turmoil and leaving a community grappling with the shock.

While SAPD continued their investigation, details surfaced about the possible strain in the couple's relationship prior to the shooting. A neighbor disclosed to KENS 5 that the couple was going through a divorce, noting past incidents of arguing.

The woman, now fighting for her life, remains in critical condition.
