Crackdown on human trafficking in Revere culminated in the arrest of a 64-year-old woman, Xiu Ying Zhang, after a multi-jurisdictional task force swarmed her apartment last week. Zhang, a resident of Revere, now faces severe charges as law enforcement authorities ramp up efforts against modern day slavery networks. The arrest followed a six-month probe led by the Massachusetts State Police High Risk Victims Unit, the Revere Police Special Investigations Unit, and FBI Human Trafficking Task Force agents.

During the search at 50 Nahant Ave, #1, authorities were able to quickly locate one adult victim, a Chinese national, who had been smuggled from Mexico into the United States, as per a statement released by the Revere Police Department on Facebook. The grim revelation shed light on the covert operations that too often escape public scrutiny, where lives are painstakingly trafficked across borders only to be ensnared in the clutches of exploitation and abuse.

Zhang now faces the possibility of serving a minimum mandatory prison sentence of five years, highlighting the serious nature of the charges against her. Following the arraignment, Zhang was held on a bail set at half a million dollars, reinforcing the judicious clampdown on such grievous offences by the local judicial system. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office – Human Trafficking Unit is set to prosecute the case.
