San Ramon Man Sentenced to 40 Months for Illegal Firearm and Ammunition PossessionSource: Google Street View

A San Ramon local was hit with a 40-month stretch behind bars for a firearm outrage, per an announcement from U.S. Attorney Ismail J. Ramsey and ATF head honcho Jennifer Cicolani. Rashad Shambray-Jones, 30, got his sentence from Judge Haywood S. Gilliam, Jr., cementing his fate for illegal gun and ammo possession.

Pleading guilty last fall, Shambray-Jones' drama started with a crash on federal turf back in January 2021, when cops found a gun and 19 bullets in his car, but it was a one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1), that got him charged. According to the Department of Justice, his rap sheet barred him from having the firepower to begin with.

Despite a chance to dodge the slammer through the Conviction Alternatives Program, Shambray-Jones blew it big time, getting caught on video in May last year letting loose a hail of lead in the Bayview District — ending up at a hospital in September for a gunshot wound himself after another violent episode, stated the DOJ.

"Let today’s sentence serve as a warning: the resulting prison time will be serious," Ramsey warned, slamming those who exploit second chances only to keep up the thuggery, the U.S. Attorney's Office stressed. Cicolani had it straight too, calling out Shambray-Jones for choosing the wrong path yet again and making it clear that the streets won't suffer gunmen lightly.

After his jail term, Shambray-Jones will have to walk a tightrope with three years of supervised release tacked on by Judge Gilliam, and all that came thanks to the legwork of the ATF and the legal muscle of Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared Buszin with a helping hand from Paralegal Specialist Helen Yee.
