Following the success of last summer's free outdoor event series, the Conservatory of Flowers repeated the effort this year, with the goal of offering free, accessible programming to parkgoers.

On the terrace at the conservatory each Saturday from noon to 3pm until July 29, visitors have a chance to catch something new from the conservatory's collection and see a botanical demonstration.

This weekend features representatives from Spice Ace who'll discuss "the diversity of spices from the tropics such as vanilla, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice," according to the program.

Other demonstrations include a botanical illustration discussion, a lesson from the Center for the Book on printing with plant matter, a show on tropical amphibians and reptiles, the Orchid Doctor, and a tiny-things tour using Foldscope microscopes.

And, if you stick around late enough after a picnic, you can catch the newly installed light show that covers the outside of the conservatory every night from now through October.
