A 10-year-old boy was shot and left in critical condition following a chaotic altercation in northeast Harris County last night, per reports from local authorities. The violence broke out around 8 p.m., according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, at 12212 Tidwell Road near CE King Parkway.

Amid the scuffle that involved a sizeable crowd, as Sheriff Ed Gonzalez detailed, an individual brandished a pistol and began firing shots, piercing the young boy. Whether the child was an intended target or an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire remains an uncertainty. After being hit, the boy was rushed to the hospital and immediately went into surgery, as KHOU reported.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office is working diligently to collect evidence, turning to surveillance footage and witness accounts to piece together the night's events.
